Busy Bees

We really needed to polish up our little kitchen and playstands...

So we whipped up a batch of lavender beeswax polish and got busy!

Want to make your own?

Crooked Beeswax Polish
1 oz beeswax (shaved or in small chunks)
4 oz jojoba oil
10 drops of lavender essential oil

Melt the beeswax in a mason jar waterbath like so.

Once it's melted add the jojoba oil.
Stir and remove from the water bath.

Let sit for about 5 min, then stir and add your essential oil.

Let sit another 5 minutes and then stir again.

It's done and ready to work wonders!  Make sure you let it cool completely before capping it.  It doesn't need to be refrigerated, but you can if you like.  Obviously the pudding like texture will harden when it's cold.

When polishing work in small circles until the polish is soaked up by the wood.

*No joke...Baby C whipped off her diaper to polish with!

The girls really enjoy polishing their toys and it makes mama happy to see them in purposeful work.

Busy bees...

  1. Great! My husband built a play kitchen for our kids in May and I haven't finished it in any way...today is a PA Day (kids and I home from school!) so that can be a little project for us! Thanks for the idea (I already have some polish made up). Have a lovely day.

  2. oh baby c... that is too precious. i can't believe how big she is already! time flies... loving that you're back with tutorials. i'm going to make your crooked purple pudding today.

  3. Great recipe! I actually am out of beeswax right now. I have it listed on my baby registry though :) I love your kids wooden kitchen set. I looked at those online, they are just so expensive.

  4. I made some a couple of days ago for our epay wood which surround our bath... I stopped by your blog a couple of weeks ago but you haven't posted much,, I haven't been blogging much either. Love your little pony, he's adorable. I have been reading How to click with your horse by Georgia Bruce,, great information,, I highly recommend it. will be fun for the children. The parelli basics are good to make a safe horse to. Enjoy,, he looks sweet.

  5. Carissa - I got these used off Craigslist.
$75 for 2 playstands and 1 kitchen. I sold our old wooden kitchen for $40, so basically only $35! Keep hope alive that you'll find a gently used one. :)

  6. Love this! Haven't made our own polish in a long time. I like the way that you gently melt it in the jar. It's always nice to rub in a fresh coat to spruce up wood items with the kids. :)

  7. I have been wanting to make us some beeswax polish. We never did put any finish on our playstands after making them... Thanks for the recipe.
Nice catching up with your sweet family. Glad to see you around again!
