Peaceful Centering

So a friend of mine let me borrow her funky camera.
Isn't that funky? does this weird thing where it focuses only in the center of the photograph.

Neat, huh?

As I walked about my house taking pictures and playing with my new toy I realized it's exactly what I needed.  I've been feeling a bit like I'm all over the place.

Maybe because I am wife, mama, dishwasher, chef, housekeeper, teacher, crafter, blogger, etc...  There are just not enough hours in the day.

Life has a way of helping you see your purpose, your path.  Life gave me this camera to say, "Hey!"  Let's focus on what's important.  Let's get centered.

Shortly after I got the camera my attention was brought to a post over at Threading Light.  I've signed on for their Piece Together Peace project.

The inspiring ladies over at Threading Light wanted to join in on the 13 Moon Walk for Peace, but since it's a bit impractical for us to leave our homes and our children for 13 months, they've come up with a way for us to join them in their walk for peace.

The beginning of each month I will post my intention for Peace.  Something I can work on here at home, in the trenches...

I will post again at the end of the month sharing how this has (hopefully) changed and enhanced my life as well as those around me.

Surely there are 13 ways that I can invoke peace, right?  Where to start...

I believe that to truly inspire others or see peace in our world we have to own it ourselves.  It's one thing to talk about and another thing to do it.  How can I be a more peaceful person?  Probably a lot of ways, but for this month I am going to focus on being a more "peaceful" driver.
What?  Oh, you thought I was going to come up with some clever, pretty affirmation.  No, I find those a little vague.  I need a specific goal so it doesn't get all muddled in the hustle and bustle of life.

I'm not a bad driver per se, but I am a little jaded.  Afterall I've been driving in Los Angeles my whole life!
I will focus and take a few breaths each time I enter my vehicle.
I will remind myself that there are other people on the road, just trying to get somewhere too.
I have very special cargo in my car and I should be a good role model for them.

So there you have it.  Peaceful driving is my focus for October.  A little goofy, yes, but very real and very specific...just how I like it.

Walk the walk.

Be the piece.

Be peace.

Together... let's Piece together Peace.

  1. I love your peace intention...not goofy AT ALL. These kind of peaceful practices are critical for being the change we wish to see in the world...thanks for your support and for jumping right in!
    Love, blessings, and peace~

  2. wow, it's so funny that you should make that your ambition, because after a parking and speeding ticket, I need to make it mine too. After getting my speeding ticket, I thought to myself how lucky I am that it hadn't happened sooner with how I drive. I too need to learn to slow down, take a deep breath and be more conscientious. thanks for the affirmation.

  3. beautiful pics. beautiful post ;)

  4. im loving this...the camera has a hidden gift, surely! The photos look way cool....
I'm with you on the driving....perhaps this is where I'll start, too...

  5. I don't think that's the least bit goofy. I actually think the place/situation where I lose my temper (or at the least become annoyed, and yes lose my peace) more than any other is in the car driving. No telling how many people have lost their lives or been seriously injured as a result of a driver succumbing to a fit of road rage. I actually think this is a wonderful idea, and I may well take it up myself. I have a tape by the Buddhist/Jewish teacher Sylvia Boorstein called "Road Sage" - great teachings surrounding the activity of driving. This may be a good time to give it another listen....I look forward to hearing your other inspired ideas in the coming months.

  6. Glad I'm not alone with the whole driving thing. :)
Road sage...I'm going to go look for that!

  7. Those pictures are COOL!
A peaceful driver, that's a pretty good place to start, considering all those CRAZY people on the road out there :P

  8. Such a concrete intention -- perfect. And not at all goofy. "Let's get centred" -- Love, love, love it! Cameras always speak to me too :-)

  9. Gorgeous photos!!
This should a focus for all of us - oh how I need it!

  10. So much of my life seems blurred at the edges as well. I try to remind myself often to just remain focused, and clear, and that everything in the long run will all be alright. Just knowing that has the power to help us through our days. Thanks for sharing your lovely thoughts and images!
