I know...let's have a healthy shake!
Earlier this week the girls and I were outside trying to tame the unruly weeds that sprouted during our last rains. F was getting bored and announced, "I know mama...let's go have a healthy shake!". Ha Ha. Ok, how was I supposed to say no? Luckily I had some sesame seeds soaking for sesame milk later that day.
(What you don't know is that this little bowl holding the sesame seeds is super cute!)
See?!? I got it thrifting a few weeks back and set it up for my husband on Valentine's day with some treats in it. It was only .50 cents. I love scores like that! I'll do a longer post on thrifting later this week.
Back to the smoothie...sesame milk alone is super healthy. Just 1/4 cup is jam packed with calcium, magnesium, B-6 and vegan protein. Since the girls wanted a shake though we added in a few extras.
F's "healthy shake" recipe:
1/4 cup sesame seeds (soaked at least 2-3 hours)
2 ripe organic bananas (frozen for a frosty shake)
4 organic medjool dates
scoop of RAW Protein Powder
1 Tbs carob powder
I normally don't use supplements (aside from flax DHA oil), because I think you can get all the vitamins/nutrients you need by eating a wide variety vegan/vegetarian diet. However, since I am in my last trimester and protein is sucked up by my little brewing being in my belly....I add some extra raw vegan
protein every day. I also sometimes use Nutiva Organic Hemp Protein
, but that tastes better in green smoothies.
I wanted to take some pictures of us drinking it up, but my camera ran out of batteries...oh well.
**Today is the last day to enter my raw food cookbook giveaway here! We'll announce the winner tomorrow (Monday). Good luck!
