Winning, nominating and giving!

So, I just recently started this whole blog thing.  Actually it was exactly 1 month ago (yay, happy 1 month birthday blog!).  I am quite enjoying it.

Widely followed blogs have what they call give-aways.  Usually a sponsor offers up something to the blog readers, or companies send freebies to the writer or whatever.  The blogger then asks for comments and usually picks a number/name at random to see who wins whatever product was donated.

Well, thank YOU Mr. Random-Number-Generator! Earth Mother over at In The Raw teamed up with Snubbr to offer a give-away for a raw food cookbook of your choice.  Woo-Hoo!  It seriously made my day, I was so excited!!  I love surprises, so I asked Earth Mother to choose between 2 books for me and just surprise me.  I fear my email was misread because she ended up sending me one I already had!  It's ok though...no tears here...she sent it because it really is one of the best (in my opinion).

Raw Food/Real World by Matthew Kenney and Sarma Melngalis.

My dear sweet husband bought me a few books back when I first got in to raw food prep a few years ago.  He handed me this one and said, "I don't know if it's any good, but the pictures are pretty and so are the people in it."  Ha!  Well if any of you have looked at this book you'd have to agree.  Matthew and Sarma make Raw Food sexy.  But you know what?  They also have some of the best recipes.  3 come to mind that are staples in my house; Cranberry Maple Granola, Maple Cinnamon Crispies, and Quinoa and Grape Salad.  I have made quite a few of their other recipes and have never been disappointed.  In fact it's one of the first cookbooks I recommend for folks who want to get started with raw recipes right away.  If they are interested in the "How?" and "Why?" I usually recommend Dr. Cousens books Conscious Eating or Rainbow Green Live-Food Cuisine.  Raw Food/Real World has info in it (cleverly spattered about the colorful pages), but it's their easy, beautiful, fresh recipes that make it pop into my mind first when people ask for recommendations.

I've loaned out my own copy so many times I am thrilled to have another copy.  But guess what?!?!  What goes around comes around and I am all about spreading the **Raw Food Love**.  So I am having my first give-away.  Don't laugh now.  I realize I only have like 25 followers, but it just makes your chances that much greater, right?!?!

To enter, simply leave a comment on this post about why you're interested in raw food.  That's it!  How easy, huh?  I have NO idea how bloggers keep track of who twitters/posts/FaceBooks things for other entries, so I'm keeping this one simple.  A comment gets an entry...easy as raw strawberry pie!  I'll close the comments on Sunday night at 9pm (March 21st) and announce the winner Monday morning.

On another note...my dear friend Andrea over at Four Flights of Fancy nominated me for a Blog Award.

Yippee!  My first!  So how do these work you guys?  They are suspiciously like a chain letter, but I'm all excited, so here it goes...I am supposed to list 7 random facts about me and nominate 7 other blogs.

Since it's a "Beautiful Blogger" award I instantly think about blogs that are beautiful to look at while reading.
2. MamaRoots
3. Stratford Family
4. Teaching Handwork
5. Rawmazing
6. VeganYumYum
7. EarthMama
I think all blogs are beautiful as it's a reflection of yourself, but these ones usually have beautiful pictures to boot!

On to me...7 random things...really?!?!  Um...
1. I met my husband at the Renaissance Faire.  He was fairly drunk, but still charming.
2. We fell instantly in love and we've been together ever since (that was just after my 17th bday!).
3. I really disliked the name F at first...now it's nothing short of perfect for my little girl.
4. I keep trying to like the whole felting thing (needle or wet) but I really don't...I know!...how un-waldorf of me.
5. I don't get the whole Durian craze...that is one stinky fruit!
6. I used to own/drive a Mazda Miata and never drove with the top down, ever.
7. I used to hit my little brother and say he hit himself...sorry bro...you know I love you, right?!?! :)

Well I tried to make them random by just typing whatever popped into my head (minus a few I'd like to keep out of cyberspace).  There you go!
Thanks for the nomination Andrea, your blog is beautiful too.

**Don't forget to leave a comment to win the book.  Tell your friends about it too!  Or not...and increase your chance of winning!!**

  3. Thanks for nominating me. Very sweet of you. I'd so love to win a raw vegan cookbook. I became vegan when I was 19, and a couple of years ago starting reading up on the benefits of the raw diet. It would be great to have an easy into raw recipe book, as you mentioned.

  8. So I've frequented Matt's Rawvolution restaurant (I live about 45 min from Venice) and even ordered his box 1/2 a dozen times, so I feel like I should get his book, BUT I really like Raw Food Real World and maybe I should get Sarma's Living Raw Food book. Ah! What do you think? I know...I love surprises...just send one or the other. Woo-Hoo!

So sorry, Laura. Sure didn't get that you already owned "Raw Food Real World" from what you wrote me. Wish you would have clarified that. Ah well. Perhaps someone else can enjoy it.

  15. I would like to learn more about raw food because I'm trying to focus more on the nutrition of the foods I eat and the impact of my choices on my environment, trying to see food differently than I have, and raw food is interesting because I don't really know much about it at all! (although I did already find a couple raw things online I'll be trying. Orange chocolate "cheesecake", mmm!).
